Jemel Roberson, a real life hero, was murdered by police. For being black.

What command did he refuse? Why was deadly force needed? Why are police acting without any training?

TIL that Haiti—the only nation born of a slave revolt—could have been a prosperous country but was impoverished by a crippling, decades-long embargo imposed by Europe and the U.S. after former slaves overthrew the country’s European ruling elites.

via reddit.com

important to note is that Haiti was expected to pay reparations to France, 90 million gold francs in total. this has caused enormous damage to Haiti’s economy, when coupled with the embargo.

The 90 million francs Haiti paid back to France over the course of the nineteenth century is equivalent to about 20 billion USD today. France has, of course, refused to refund any of it.
